Negotiate your Next Mattress Purchase Price

April 18, 2011 by mattress1982

Ever wonder if you can negotiate the purchase of a new mattress at a mattress store? Well guess what! You can.

Buying a new mattress for your bed can be very expensive, especially if you are looking to buy a pillow top mattress. People often wait until stores reduce the prices of their mattresses or have a clearance sale. Many people do not know that the price of a mattress is not fixed in stone and that sales people are open to negotiations regarding the price of the mattress. Knowing how to buy a mattress at a great price is something that many people do not know but there are some things that you can do to reduce the price and get a great mattress.

The best mattresses usually cost you more than a thousand dollars if you are looking to buy the box spring as well. However, there are a large number of stores that sell mattresses and they are trying to outsell their competition. Shopping around is always advised as each store would rather have a sale at a lesser price than no sale at all. Do not try to negotiate a price before you have visited several stores to see what the average price is and who has the best mattresses and prices.

Knowing how to buy a mattress means that you must already have a price in your head of what you are willing to spend. When you enter a store knowing what you are willing to pay and what you are not, there is no way that you will end up overpaying for your mattress. Sales people can also tell when a person is firm and when they know it they are willing to negotiate the price because they know you will not buy otherwise.

In some cases, the best mattresses will not be sold at a lower price but knowing how to a buy a mattress like a pro means that you know of other things that they can reduce the price on to make the sale what you want it to be. For example, most mattresses stores will charge you to deliver the mattress if you are unable to transport it yourself. This delivery charge can be anywhere from fifty dollars to one hundred dollars depending on where you live. If the sales person will not reduce the price of the mattress then you could try reducing or eliminating the delivery charge. You may also be able to get a discount on a box spring to go with the mattress. Some stores will throw in other things such as high quality mattress pads and so on. In fact there are some mattress stores that offer deals where if you pay the full price for the mattress you may get a free bed frame or in some cases a free television.

There are so many brands of mattresses on the market today that you can visit a number of different stores and find the same quality mattresses in but with a different name and in some cases with a different price. The key to finding the best price on your mattress is to shop around, know what you are willing to spend and show the sales person that you are not willing to go any higher. If you do this then negotiating the price of your mattress will be simple.

Quality Bed Frame

A bed is not a bed without a quality bed frame. The frame is the part that supports the mattress and the box spring. Bed frames come in a variety of sizes and styles, some with headboards and some without. When choosing a mattress you must also think about the type of bed frame that you will be using to support that mattress.

If you are looking for something simple then you may choose a simple bed frame, if looking for something more decorative for your room then you will be looking at a higher quality bed frame for your room. Choosing a mattress frame depends solely on how much money you are willing to spend. The rule of thumb is the more money you spend the better quality bed frame you will get.

There are several different types of bed frames on the market today that are of good quality and well worth the money that you will spend. The most common type of frame is the metal frame. A metal bed frame is just as the name suggests completely made out of metal. In most cases there is a frame that will hold the box spring and mattress.

In queen and king size beds you will also find a metal support rod that runs along the middle of the frame to add extra support in the middle. Metal frames come in all sizes from twin to king. The larger size bed frames are usually adjustable which is great if you have a different size mattress as you will find in the California king. Almost all metal frames are on wheels that can be locked; however in some cases you can remove the wheels for more stability.

There are also bed frames that have the ability to be added to a headboard. In most cases the bed frame is sold in conjunction with a headboard but there are universal frames that can be screwed to a headboard. These frames do not have wheels like the free standing metal frames. When you are choosing a mattress and headboard you should also choose the frame that will go with both at the same time.

There are heavy duty bed frames made of metal that are great when extra support is needed. These bed frames are great for larger beds and heavy mattresses. Pillow tops mattresses are thicker and heavier than a standard mattress and they require added support across the middle of the bed frame.

Some frames only have an additional metal bar that runs horizontally while there are others that have a vertical bar as well, ensuring that the box spring and mattress will not drop in the middle. As stated previously these metal frames can be found in an adjustable format as well. They allow you to adjust the width and length of the frame to accommodate a different size mattress.

If you want to raise your bed even further off the floor you can use what are called bed risers. These have typically been used to raise the bed so that there is extra storage room under the bed. Using these risers you can lift your bed up to an additional four inches off the floor. There are special risers that can be used to raise only the headboard end of the bed, it is important to read the packaging carefully to ensure that you are getting the correct risers.

Traditionally bed frames are put together in sections and they have to be secured with screws on each corner. This means that when you want to move the bed frame it must come apart in pieces.

Today there is a new bed frame on the market and it is quickly gaining popularity. The Pragma Bi-folding bed frame is a frame that is folded and unfolded for easy set up and take down. This means that transporting the frame has been made a great deal easier. The frame is made in all sizes from twin to king.

Feather Mattress Covers

March 10, 2011 by mattress1982

There is probably no greater feeling in the world then climbing into a comfortable bed after a long stressful day. If your bed is comfortable enough, you can feel all that stress being lifted off your shoulders the instant you lie down. However, if you are not feeling this kind of satisfaction and stress relief with your current bedding, you need to seriously consider getting a feather top mattress cover.

Since the average person sleeps for almost one third of their entire life, it is usually safe to say that a quality feather top mattress cover is a good investment even if it means a little extra cash at the checkout. For those of you who may be deprived of this luxury, a feather mattress cover is basically a small thin mattress or cover that sits on top of your existing mattress. This feather mattress cover usually provides much more support and comfort.

Looking for a feather top mattress cover does not have to be a big chore. There are a few different variations of mattress covers. Of course you can choose from all of the different sizes of covers, but you can also choose from different types of materials that are inside the covers. Some covers come with real goose down, some with a synthetic blending of materials, and others a hypoallergenic Primaloft. All of these different fillings give you a little bit of variety depending on your personal preference and sleep style.

How to Choose a Feather Mattress Topper

Before buying a cover for your mattress, it would be wise to do a bit of research on your own. Many mattress cover retailers have their websites available online so you don’t even have to leave your home in order to find out which mattress cover is the best choice for you. Many different dedicated sites and many online retailers can help you obtain a vast array of knowledge about mattress covers.

Usually the smart thing to do is stick to retailers and websites that are very well-known and start gathering information from them. Many online retailers also have places for customers to leave their comments and reviews, which is exactly what you should be looking for. Finding out what others said about a certain product and a retailer can help you greatly in making the right decision.

A mattress cover is very easy to install and usually just fits over the mattress, much like a fitted sheet. Feather mattress covers can even be a source of some protection for your mattress against things like dust and dirt. In the event of an accident, spill or even just after some wear and tear, you can easily take off the cover and have it professionally cleaned to protect the goose down or synthetic fibers inside.

When it comes to sleep, you should not skip out on the higher quality products. After all, without decent night’s sleep, you could be lowering the quality of your work and day, even putting yourself at risk for long-term health problems. Remember, nothing is as simple and effective at improving your sleep as knowing how to choose a mattress cover.

When Should I Replace My Mattress?

March 10, 2011 by mattress1982

CC Flickr photo courtesy of recyclethis. Is your mattress older than 10 years, or causing back pain? If so, you probably need to replace it.

Wondering how to know when it’s time to replace a mattress because it is worn out?

Knowing when to replace your mattress is very important in determining how well you sleep. A mattress that has been used for a long time will feel flat, lumpy and springs may even stick in your back. While there are a number of ways to tell if this mattress has seen better days, the biggest indicator will be how well you sleep. Outlined below are several things to watch for or to keep in mind when trying to determine if it is time to get a new mattress.

How Old Is the Mattress?

  • It is a standard rule of thumb that if your mattress is older than ten years it is time to get rid of it. People will argue that there is nothing wrong with a mattress that is that old but getting rid of a ten year old mattress may simply be for hygienic purposes. A mattress that has been used for a long time has a great risk of having dust mites and germs. These factors alone are reason enough to get a new mattress.

Does Your Mattress Have Lumps and Bumps?

  • Even the best mattresses have to replaced sometime due to the increase presence of lumps and bumps in the mattress. If you are person who likes to sleep on a bumpy surface then maybe this is one of the best mattresses for you. However, if you want a good night’s sleep then replacing this mattress with a new mattress that is soft and comfortable will give you the rest that you need.

Worn Out Mattresses and Back Pain

  • One of the leading causes of back pain is a worn out mattress. If you find yourself waking up in the morning with pain all over your back then it may be time to replace it. Often people are not even aware of the fact that it is the mattress that is causing the pain. Over time our body changes and what was comfortable a few years ago may not be anymore now.

What Size Is Your Mattress?

  • People who sleep alone may not need a large mattress but when you begin to sleep with a partner or someone else in the bed you may soon realize that a bigger bed is needed. Some of the best mattresses come in queen and king sizes at fairly affordable prices. If you have the room then upgrading may be in order.
  • Some people find that they need to reduce the size of their bed. If you are moving into a smaller place you may be required to replace your mattress with something smaller. This happens when people have a king size bed and no longer have the room to fit them.

People may not realize how important having a good mattress is. You should look for one that you know will last you a long time and that is going to help you to get the best night’s sleep possible. This might mean that you have to spend a little extra money but in the long run it may save you more as you will have to replace your mattress less often.
